Midwife Jennie Sorel, age 70, was held by the coroner in the March 12, 1943 abortion death of 20-year-old Doris Morris. Doris had died at Chicago's Edgewater Hospital.
Doris's mother, Lucy Ernst, testified that Doris had gone to Sorel for an abortion about a month previously. Doris had moved back with her mother after a fight with her husband, a soldier stationed at Madison, Wisconsin.
